With the launch of three new tools to assist its members, Food Supplements Europe is strengthening its set of instruments to assists the food supplements sector to apply appropriate levels of safety and quality.
Complementing its Guide to Good Manufacturing Practice for Manufacturers of Food Supplements, published in May this year, a Self-Assessment Questionnaire was developed as a checklist to help manufacturers identify the necessary documentation needed throughout the supply chain to ensure their products are of high quality and safety.
“This self-assessment questionnaire is the result of the demand for easy to use documents to help our members apply the multitude of regulatory requirements applicable to food supplements,” said Ingrid Atteryd, chair of Food Supplements Europe. “We know that especially our small- and medium-sized members value very much the support from these kind of tools.”
To address the specificities of botanicals, Food Supplements Europe also launched a specific Guide for the Manufacturing of Botanical Preparations, Including Extracts as Food Supplements. Also this guide is accompanied by a specific self-assessment questionnaire.
“Botanicals have very specific requirements for their identification and manufacturing,” said Irene Minardi, chair of Italian Botanicals Association ASSOERBE and member of Food Supplements Europe. “That is why we developed a specific guideline for botanicals. The self-assessment questionnaire accompanying the Guide will become an essential tool for companies that are committed to show they manufacture safe and high quality products.”
With these new documents, Food Supplements Europe continues its series of documents to provide guidance to companies. All documents are available for download from the Food Supplements Europe Website: www.foodsupplementseurope.org.
