Innophos Nutrition Inc., a manufacturer and distributor of premium ingredients and blends to the nutritional and natural products industries, and a subsidiary of Innophos Holdings Inc., has formed a Scientific Advisory Board (SAB) comprised of leading scientists in the field of nutrition. The mission of the SAB will be to support Innophos Nutrition’s drive for innovation by providing insights, expertise and strategic guidance for product and market developments.
“We are excited to welcome such an outstanding group of scientists as our initial board,” said Bruce Brown, Innophos Nutrition’s vice president. “We have assembled these thought-leaders for the diversity of their views and the strength of their scientific integrity. Innophos Nutrition will be able to draw on their expertise to assess a wide-range of opportunities for new products and new areas of growth.”
“Forming this board is part of Innophos Nutrition’s reinvention of itself over the course of 2015,” commented Innophos Nutrition’s President, Joseph Golowski. “2015 began with the consolidation of four of Innophos’ acquisitions in the nutrition industry under the new name ‘Innophos Nutrition.’ We have brought on board new leadership and instituted organization-wide changes to Innophos Nutrition’s operations that have already shown positive results in the third quarter.”
The SAB will be led internally by Alice Hirschel, PhD, Nutritional Science, Biochemical and Molecular Nutrition; graduate of the University of Texas, Austin; hired by Innophos Nutrition in 2015. The initial appointments of Innophos Nutrition’s Scientific Advisory Board include:
Tracy Anthony, PhD– Associate Professor of Nutritional Sciences at the Department of Nutritional Sciences, Rutgers, and Director of Postdoctoral and Student Programs, New Jersey Institute for Food, Nutrition and Health. Dr. Anthony focuses her research on cellular stress responses to amino acid deprivation, environmental stressors effects on the endoplasmic reticulum, and the interface of dietary protein and exercise as it relates to weigh control and optimization of lean body mass.
James Fleet, PhD– Distinguished Professor, Department of Nutrition Science, Purdue University. The focus of Dr. Fleet’s research is the role of vitamin D in health, particularly the molecular regulation and genetics of bone and mineral metabolism as well as the mechanisms of carcinogenesis and cancer prevention.
Michael McIntosh, PhD, RD– Lucy S. Keker Excellence Professor, Department of Nutrition, University of North Carolina – Greensboro. Dr. McIntosh’s research focuses on the microbiota-obesity-inflammation triad, hormonal and nutritional regulation of energy metabolism and gene expression in adipocytes.
Neil Shay, PhD– Professor of Nutrition and Food Science, Department of Food Science and Technology, Oregon State University. Dr. Shay’s research interests are functional foods and their bioactive components that influence chronic metabolic diseases including obesity, diabetes, heart disease, and fatty liver disease.
Christopher Vulpe, M.D., PhD– Professor, Physiological Sciences, University of Florida, Gainesville. Dr. Vulpe’s research focuses on copper and iron metabolism and genomic approaches to identify toxicity pathways in mammals with a focus on metals and metalloids.
