Aker BioMarine, a supplier specializing in krill-based omega-3 ingredients, was recognized by the Global Innovation Management Institute (GIMI) with the title of the world’s most innovative company in the private sector.
GIMI is a nonprofit membership organization driving standards for innovation management, and collaborates with 500 university partners worldwide. The GIMI Innovation Award was presented at LaSalle University in Barcelona. Aker BioMarine was recognized for its ability to drive sustainable innovation initiatives promoting health.
“Aker BioMarine earned first place for its pioneering work in health and nutritional innovation, driven by its commitment to quality, sustainability, and the development of krill-based omega-3 ingredients that benefit heart, brain, and joint health for people worldwide,” said the judges in a statement. “Through relentless exploration of new technologies, Aker BioMarine continues to set industry standards, making a global impact on human health.”
The award celebrates individuals and organizations in public, private, and social sectors who are pushing boundaries and advancing innovation across industries, regions, and communities.
Aker Biomarine was founded in 2006 as a small Norwegian company, and has grown into a leader in the billion-dollar Antarctic krill industry. The company has pioneered sustainable krill harvesting and is involved in research, product development, and market expansion.
“This recognition is a testament to our dedication to innovation and aligns us with a global standard of excellence. We have come a long way since our first trip to Antarctica, and this award belongs to everyone who has been part of our journey – our owners, partners, and especially our employees,” said Matts Johansen, CEO of Aker BioMarine.
Johansen said that while technology, science, and R&D have been crucial, investments in culture and team have also been vital. “With the right setup, we’ve stayed on track in real time while keeping an eye on the future.”
The GIMI Award accompanies other company accolades, including recognition as “Norway’s Most Innovative Company,” and “Europe’s Most Innovative Company.”
