Designed Nutritional Products: Blazing The Innovation Trail

Founded in 1992, Designed Nutritional Products, Orem, UT, is a decade old corporation that exclusively supplies several domestically manufactured nutritional products to the nutraceuticals industry.

One point of focus for the company is innovation. “In addition to being the pioneers of dietary indoles, we also specialize in product innovation,” explained Omar Filippelli, marketing director. “Our unique ingredients and formulations are widely applied by leaders in the nutritional industry for weight loss, immune support, hormone balance and sports nutrition.”

The company’s product portfolio includes organic germanium (Ge 132), indole-3-carbinol, diindolyl methane, ascorbigen, gramine, saw palmetto, melatonin, glycogen, C-curity™, Brox-25™ and Aztec™.

Designed Nutritional’s motivation for getting involved in the nutraceuticals industry was two-fold, according to Mr. Filippelli. “From the beginning we believed in this industry and the health benefits it provides the public, and we also foresaw the merging of main stream medicine with alternative medicine,” he said.

Recently, Designed Nutritional Products became the first nutritional business in Utah to achieve ISO 9001:2000 registration. In other developments, the company is expecting promising results on product studies relating to cervical dysplasia.

In addition to obtaining new equipment in order to handle greater manufacturing capacity, Mr. Filippelli said the company is in the midst of launching a new product, SoLite™, for which it has obtained a provisional patent and trademark.

Commenting on the state of the industry, Mr. Filippelli said. “The nutritional industry has experienced a normal growth curve in the past, showing its peak during the nine­ties,” he said, adding, “Innovation, good science, education and regulation hold the key to a true competitive front and that’s where we are headed.”

Discussing the company’s future role, Mr. Filippelli explained, “We see our role as promoters of reliable data and scientifically backed products. Our position in this industry al­lows us to see the whole picture of consumer needs, in­dus­try direction, regulation and trends. Most of all, we are looking for better solutions to health and nutrition with scientifically-based products. We are on a constant search for meaningful data that will allow us and the industry to provide quality products with true benefits to the consumer.”—T.W.
