Lastly, the company has introduced the model 155R RFID printer applicator incorporating the latest RFID print engine technology from Avery Dennison, Datamax, Sato and Zebra, and is available in blow-on and tamp-on application technologies. The PLC controlled unit can be incorporated into automated conveyor systems from Auto Labe that integrate additional antennas for RFID label verification after application and product rejection systems for non-written or bad tags.

CCL Container, Inc., Hermitage, PA, has expanded its Penetang, Ontario, Canada plant by adding two new high-speed production lines, which brings the plant's total number of lines to 10, making it the largest impact extrusion container facility in North America. The first new line commenced service in January and the second will commence in June. Both will produce aluminum containers ranging in diameter from 53 to 66 millimeters and up to 235 millimeters in height. These larger sizes are particularly well suited to the personal care and beverage markets. In addition, both lines are configured to accommodate full body shaping capabilities utilizing the Body Shapes line of aluminum canisters featuring dramatic curves and contours running the entire length of the container.

In other news, the company has teamed-up with Trimspa, Cedar Knolls, NJ, in an effort to protect their products from counterfeiting by creating packaging that is virtually impossible to replicate. CCL's solution came in the form of an aluminum bottle. The 100% recyclable, seamless aluminum container is the only product in the category utilizing aluminum, according to the company. To make the package especially difficult to replicate, CCL has debossed a Trimspa logo on the side of the container. To further foil imitation brands, intricate lithography included a monochrome screened photo image.

The next generation Torayfan PCFS, made with a proprietary blend of polymers, saves converters time and money by eliminating the sealant extrusion coating step in the converting process. The new MOPP film has a low shear storage modulus that provides increased flow-ability and improved hermetic seals. Torayfan PCFS also displays good moisture and oxygen barrier durability, as well as improved economics over traditional foil and sealant combinations. It can be used for packet and stand-up pouch applications, including hot cocoa, seasoning, soup, rice, croutons, stuffing, dried cheese, and powdered beverages and nutrition/energy drinks.

Rexam recently launched its LCC-2 two-piece dispensing closures. The new closures feature a stay-back hinge for ease of pouring. When products are dispensed, the closures' orifices extend to pull the product back into the package so there is no mess. Consumers can tell if the seal is intact when opening the closures top and closing is more secure with the new and improved snap feature. Positive engagement gives an audible indication and maintains consistent opening and closing forces independent of application torques. The LCC-2 closures meet specifications of the 671 USP "Tight" containers using HDPE bottles, which helps ensure product integrity. Ideal applications include nutritional supplements.
